Tudor Pelagos 500 m diver – live photos

Compared to general quality, the Rolex Submariner dial beats the Pelagos — but again they want to do different things. The Submariner is blatantly attempting to be a little flashier, while the Pelagos is more about being a neat looking utility device. If you look carefully, you’ll inevitably see small inconsistencies in the use of the Super-LumiNova, which is not uncommon in any way. However, you have to appear really carefully. I simply say this to clarify that when you pay the extra cash for the Rolex, you get only a bit more construction fanaticism in regards to complete dial perfection. But for the cash the Pelagos dial is excellent — you simply should appreciate it as a tool watch rather than as a lifestyle thing people wish to merely show off.One of the fun quirks that Tudor Quiz contained in the dial layout is something just meant to add character which does not have any functional use. It is subtle, but it does bring me pleasure the numerals on the date disk alternate between being printed in a red or black colour. That means daily the color of the date varies. It merely helps liven up things a little, and is the final cosmetic thing I will mention before I once again move to speak about all of the tiny functional details you should be excited about if you are thinking about receiving a Pelagos watch. Before that, I’ll only say the final thing which divides the Pelagos LHD from the normal Pelagos is that each piece is given a single serial number on the back of the case. This is not brand new or all that uncommon, but it is for a watch like this and helps add collectability for it. Yes, Tudor sort of randomly created up an enthusiast’s variant of this Pelagos and added a serial number into the caseback, but strangely enough it had been the ideal thing to do as it helps each individual slice feel a bit more unique.

Besides the vintage-styled Black Bay, F Tudor Hajduk also unveiled the 500 m titanium Pelagos diver at Baselword 2012. Our compatriots at Watchonista have shared a couple of sharp pictures with us.

Aside from the titanium case and bracelet, the Pelagos also has a helium release valve and a ceramic bezel insert. But what’s really notable is its self adjusting clasp – explained in this video. – SJX
