Photoshoot – Between design and power

The design, artistry and workmanship balanced at a Patek Philippe is peerless. Patek’s instances, by way of instance, say it all: they may appear simple in their overall implementation, but Patek takes no shortcuts. Among a few other watchmakers, cases are cast and machine-finished, often in an outside store; at Patek Philippe, cases are for the most part created in house, and frequently forged from solid pieces of gold or even platinum.Patek uses conventional case-making methods which hark back to the 1800s, and which have been preserved by a select few contemporary watchmakers. To create one of its instances requires know-how that’s been passed from generation to generation, the same as themselves. And that’s the way it ought to be. Not particularly for pricing issues, but valuable metals create it pretty much impossible for a watch to feel “sporty” in any way, let alone such a complex watch like the 5960. The outcome is that the natural progression of what the new intended with their desire to capture a younger market, and in my opinion it is an aesthetic enhancement and refinement.

This photo gallery was created by Geneva-based photographer Denis Hayoun in cooperation with Emil Frey Les Acacias Geneva and BMW. It transports us to the world of luxury cars and combines graphic design with technology and power.
