Audemars Piguet desided to make something for Royal Oak Concept at SIHH 2015. And this year’s SIHH, the concept has transformed into reality. The Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie watch launched in SIHH 2016.
The Royal Oak Concept Supersonnerie is not just a watch. It is designed to match the sound of an instrument of music, akin to an acoustic guitar. Its gongs act like guitar strings, the gong stud becomes the guitar bridge and the hammers are the guitar player’s. Just like how the strum of the guitar travels its way through the body of the guitar via the bridge, the gong of the 2016 Royal Oak launch resonates through the marvellous movement. The sound is sheer music. Moreover, the time spent waiting for the gongs to strike between the hour and minute chiming is reduced by up to 50 per cent. This makes the tempo remarkably sharper.
Audemars Piguet’s innovative endeavours led to the chiming watches sound study programme. Started in 2006, this highly ground breaking programme took place in collaboration with the EPFL. The superlative new launch is a result of this commendable effort and research.
