WATCH WINNER REVIEW: Davosa Vanguard Automatic Giveaways

As a special supplementary watch giveaway in June 2015, aBlogtoWatch audience members had a chance to win a Davosa Vanguard Automatic watch. The winner, Anthony E. has followed-up with a watch winner review of his new watch below. Thanks to him and everyone who participates in aBlogtoWatch giveaways.

First and foremost, I am extremely fortunate and very proud to have won such a beautiful timepiece. My heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the aBlogtoWatch and Massdrop teams for making this timepiece available in the contest. I actually became interested in the Davosa brand when I first saw it featured in the 2013 Wristwatch Annual catalog publication of fine timepieces… and as luck would have it, you have made it possible for me to own Davosa’s latest design. Thank you!

Last but not least, I tip my hat to the Davosa team for creating the Davosa Vanguard model. The wristwatch is a cut above some of my other high-end watches in the same price range that include Maurice Lacroix, TAG Heuer, and others.

The pinstripe design on the black colored dial contributes to the complete elegant design for this model, with high contrast white index markers and luminous hands. The case/bezel is a combination of polished and satin finished stainless steel. The watch is 40mm wide, but it actually wears more like a 42mm or 43mm watch on the wrist, as one can probably appreciate from the pictures. Obviously, it is a much more impressive timepiece in person than pictures can convey. It comes complete with a sapphire crystal on the dial, as well as on the exhibition window that shows a full view of the movement from the caseback. It all comes together with a fine black calf-skin leather strap to match the black dial.

This exquisitely elegant timepiece is cradled inside a luxurious presentation box that matches the quality of the Davosa Vanguard. As an added bonus, the timepiece includes two extra pairs of interchangeable leather straps: a summery grey suede strap and a sporty, any-time-wear honey brown lizard strap. In the mere 24 hours that I wore the watch so far, I actually tried all three straps on my wrist. My preference turned out to be the honey-colored lizard strap with its weathered appearance, which can be worn with a suit or jeans. It made for a great looking combination against the deep black dial.

The Automatic Engine: ETA 2892-2

The watch is powered by a highly accurate mechanical/automatic movement that offers approximately 40 hours of power reserve. All I had to do was to give it around 20 turns to start it, per the instructions, and wore it continuously for about 24 hours. After that time, I left it standing on its side until it stopped running. In its static mode, the watch ran for another 38 hours… but again, that is after wearing on my wrist for only 24 hours – not bad at all…

Another great quality feature of this movement is its shock absorbing function, making this timepiece a tough, durable watch. I learned that this feature is accomplished by the use of an elastic bearing that protects the pivot point of the balance against drop or shock damage. davosa.com
