Oris Carl Brashear L.E. Bronze Dive Watch

It must be fate that just after publishing my post about my love for bronze dive watches, I come across news about Oris‘ recent release of a limited edition bronze diver celebrating legendary Navy Master Diver Carl Brashear.

Navy Master diver Carl Brashear

Most people know of Brashear thanks to the movie ‘Men of Honor‘, released in 2000. With Brashear played by Cuba Gooding Jr., the movie recounts his struggles with discrimination in the Navy’s diving program. Brashear become the first African American to qualify as a Navy Master Diver, in 1970.

The Carl Brashear Limited Edition is the first Oris watch to be cased in bronze, which was the material used in diving helmets during the 1950’s. It’s styled after the Oris Divers Sixty-Five, but slightly larger at 42mm in diameter.

Unfortunately Oris decided to only rate the Carl Brashear L.E. to 100m of water resistance, instead of the more commonly accepted standard for diver’s watches of 200m. Still, it’s a beautiful watch, and with only 2000 pieces being made would be great to snatch up. Watchtime Magazine has more pictures in their hands on article here.

If you’d like to know more about the unique features of bronze diver’s, check out my post about them here.

The Carl Brashear Limited Edition Ref. No. 733 7720 3185 LS is only available direct from Oris, beginning April 2016.
