DWATCH Sting Ray 1000m Watch Spotted

DWATCH Sting Ray 1000m Watch Spotted Watch Releases

DWATCH is a newer watch maker that has a few cool diver’s watches that I’ve seen here and there, but didn’t think muc of them until now.  I finally saw some real images of one taken by a WatchUSeek member as getting one himself. The watch is surprisingly nice, and for $990, is a fair price for what is bound to be a very rare limited edition watch that is 1000 meters water resistant. It sort of exudes classic diver watch – even the name of the brand “DWATCH” is so generic that it just adds to tool nature of the timepiece. It is one of those perfect watches for people who like the watch to speak for itself – without help from a brand name.

The case sounds large at over 46mm wide without the crown, but it really isn’t too bad. The case has an almost bubbly cushion look to it aided by the shape of the lugs. Very nice in my opinion. Because DWATCH is all about customization, you can get the case in naked steel or PVD black, and with various types of finishes such as polished, brushed (as seen) or sandblasted. Then you have the rotating diver’s bezel that is one of my favorite parts of the watch. Again, you have a few color combinations of black and steel, but the high relief look of the numerals is really nice. Adds an almost pure industrial feel to it. Then you have the texture on the side of the bezel that matches with the large off-set crown. The case also has a Rolex Sea-Dweller helium escape valve on the left side that is a nice touch.

Moving to the dial of the watch you are again presented with a slew of options by DWATCH. The options are all color based, but can still prove to be difficult when trying to make a decision. I think the pictured watch is a good subdued version of the timepiece. Thankfully that guy didn’t go with green or orange, just good classic colors that make for a honestly handsome diver’s watch.  If you check out the thread on WatchUSeek.com (linked below), you can see the incredible amount of CS Superluminova on the dial of the watch and hands. Looks good right!? Even the placement of the date is nice. Sure it looks a lot like the date window on the Breitling Superocean Heritage, but that is a good think, and both watches actually share a lot. You’ll notice that the hands of the DWATCH Sting Ray are a combination of two types of diver’s watch hands, put together here nicely. It makes for a nice readable face, and the different style for the hour and minute hand actually helps with legibility a lot.

There are a few strap options as well, but nothing super exciting right now. At 24mm wide, you could fit any Panerai strap and it would look pretty cool. DWATCH does not currently offer a metal bracelet, but apparently they will soon. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA high-grade 2824-2 automatic movement that finds itself in many a diver’s watch – for good reason because it really is hardly and is a good movement. Nothing super fancy, but a good workhorse.

If you visit DWATCH’s website you can visit the “Custom” tab you can mix all the available parts of the watch and “build your own.” There are only going to be 100 of the Sting Ray watches as they are all individually numbered and part of a limited edition. Once again the price is about $990. Always nice to see people getting watches like this and enjoying them (it helps when they are good photographers too).
